The change was not technical in nature and there is no difference other than the suffix in the model number.

Beware of Samsung - awful customer service June 2, 2009 I purchased my HLT6187 in mid 2008. A few weeks ago, the sound and picture disappeared. Samsung sent a contracted repair servce twice to replace the LED engine, BOTH times it blew again within 24 hours and I called them back (should mention here that their hold times are ridiculous, and twice when I was transferred to their 'executive customer care' line, the phone rang for up to 10 mintes non-stop before I hung up and dialed again). Samsung then contacted the service people, determined that it was not reparable, and offered an exchange. I was offered a 52" LCD that sells for $300 less than my 6187 did, as Samsung does not make DLP TVs any longer and they were taking unit depreciation into account. Quite frankly, their accounting issues should not be my concern, as their TV stopped working *under warranty*. I said I would not accept their exchange, as I purchased furniture and arranged a room around a 61" screen. I told the rep on their 'executive' help line that I would consider (begrudgingly) accepting a 55" LCD unit, she said she would relate that to the exchange department. They came back with the snarky reply that sure, they would exchange for a 55" unit, for a $750 fee. I was pretty ticked off. I said I wanted a refund then, and the rep said they would begin processing it, but it would take up to 3 weeks to send someone to take back the television. In short, my advice is to AVOID SAMSUNG as their customer service is the worst I have experienced with a large company. I will never buy another Samsung product again.
Very happy with Samsung DLP 61 inch April 28, 2009 My review will be very objective since I've had this model since Nov '07. I've had no problems at all with the colors or lamp burning out. I use my tv almost everyday so it gets a good work out. This tv is especially great for Blu-Rays they look fabulous. I own the Sony BDP-S350,S300 models and they play without any problems. I also have a Denon AVR788 reciever because as others have said the sound on the tv speakers is not very good especially for a 10 x 18 room. HD Channels also look great like PBS. Eventually i will probably upgrade to the 72 inch but this baby should still last me a few more years. I know I will have to get the lamp replaced also but so far i've been very lucky.
I would definitley recommend a Samsung tv to anybody ouy there!!
Mine "bit the dust" March 18, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I absolutely loved my 61" Samsung! Without a doubt, the best I have owned. However, all good things must end...Mine bit the dust after 10 months of use. First, we lost all red color...then something else went. The good thing about it is that it was still under warranty. We had the local Samsung warranty repair shop take a look at it and they found three defective parts, two of them were in stock. The 3rd pard needed to be ordered. After tree weeks without any communication, we finally found out that there was a backorder for the part we were waiting for. After 6 weeks, I finally called Samsung direct and got someone in the executive department and they were stunned that I had been without the TV for so long. Now, however, we have been informed that Samsung is no longer producing the DLP models and the shortage of parts was key. I have not heard this (discontuing the DLP) from any other source and was skeptical initially. But, because they are replacing the DLP with a highend 52" LCD, I am beginning to wonder.
Again, the 61" DLP was a beautiful TV with an abundance of positives. My only negative is that I didn't have it long enough. I sure hope all the other posters of the 61" have a long-life TV and that you don't need parts too soon.
After 1 Year - Still LOVE this TV!! March 5, 2009 Can't say enough good about this TV - Out of the box plugged in and the picture is perfect! After a year of living with it I would recommend a Sammy to anyone. Both of my good friends bought $3000 LCD tv's and I think there is no comparison. If you can find this model on clearence BUY IT! - or the A750 version that replaced this one should even be a bit better (hard to believe)
Only one flaw - Optical audio out does not convert HDMI audio in February 6, 2009 I love this TV. I have had it for about a year and a half, and have had zero problems with it. The picture is crystal clear, and the LED bulb is the way to go. No sound comes out of it, and it has an amazing setup of input/outputs. I won't go into detail because everyone else has already, and they are right. My only problem with this TV was something that I didn't run into until a year down the road, when I was setting up an audio system. It seems that on this model, the optical audio out does not convert the high definition aduio that is coming in from any of the HDMI ports. It will only convert an analog signal. This, to me, is pointless, but customer support told me that this was changed in the 2008 model, which would make the 2008 model 100% perfect, in my book. Still, it's not a very huge issue, and is only a problem because of my Xbox360, which will not split the signal like the PS3. Oh well. In all, this TV is absolutely amazing, and everyone who sees it says the same. If I had to, I would buy it again.
