Product Description Now you can fit sweeping landscapes into a single frame with the 28mm wide-angle setting. Pull in subjects from far away to capture even subtle facial expressions with the dynamic 280mm telephoto setting. Ideal for traveling, the DMC-TZ5 Lumix 9.1-megapixel digital camera combines a wide-ranging LEICA DC Vario-Elmar lens with a handy, compact body. The Extra Optical Zoom function also extends the zoom to as much as 16.9x, giving you even greater telephoto power. Broke in 6 months, Panasonic NO HELP! July 3, 2009 Bought in December, stopped working June! I take great care of my equipment and LCD screen internally cracked, sent to Panasonic and they would not honor warranty. Even when the camera worked the battery life was awful and the low light weaker than any camera I have ever used. I am semi pro and have Nikon, Canon and Sony cameras that all work better. Sony, Canon & Nikon service exceptional. Panasonic the worst ever! DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA or anything from Panasonic because if it breaks for any reason they will not honor warranty!
1 Year Review...Love it!!! July 2, 2009 My 1yr anniversary just passed with this camera. Last year I paid twosixtynine for it and it's been worth every penny. At that time, I was sick and tired of bringing my digital camera and camcorder with me everywhere. So in came my Panny TZ5k from Amazon. Great zoom, wide screen mode for pics and movies, and easily works with PC and MAC. I've used it consistently for work and play since purchase. Here are some pros and cons:
PROS: -Color. Black is always IN. -Screen size. WOW! Where did you get that? -Optical Zoom. Very helpful, but stay away from grainy digital zoom. -HD Video. Finally get quick digital uploads "with" HD video!! -Burst mode. USE IT!! Catch that smile or splash :) -Built in shooting modes. Very helpful for all those non digital-camera Guru's.
CONS: -Recording bright spots (ie bright light off windows), a thin vertical line appears. Just know that when filming in daylight with lots of reflective lighting. -No view finder. But you get use to it. Like a fax machine...Do you REALLY need it? -Cables cables cables. Get yourself an SDHC to USB card reader for PC/MAC data transfer. REALLY! Right now...go! Save yourself the trouble of finding the transfer cable.
My perfect setup includes: - 1ea Panansonic Lumix DMC-TZ5K - 1ea Transcend 8 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS8GSDHC6-S5W - 2ea SanDisk 8GB SDHC memory card (Just in case you take too much video) - 1ea Small camera bag w/belt clip/loop or shoulder strap, to fit these items (Day trip) - 1ea Med camera bag with shoulder strap to fit above items and charger (w/e trip) - 1ea 46in+ Panasonic Plasma HDTV with USB or SDHC card reader for quick Photo viewing.
Go to town! Enjoy!
Excellent Camera - A Prime Target for Thieves July 2, 2009 I had my TZ5 for about six months before it was stolen last weekend at a beach party. Luckily, I got it on sale for $180 since it was around Christmas, but I see it is not currently on sale and that makes me very sad.
Basically everything about this camera is awesome (10x optical zoom baby can't get even close to that with any other point and shoot) like the zoom, the video recording, quality of shots. The only problems are that it is a little slow on the uptake, so sometimes I miss action shots, and that it's a little bigger than your average "compact" camera.
I am planning on buying it again as soon as possible... but I really don't want to spend $350 when I got it originally for $180. If you buy this camera, keep a better eye on it than I did.
Great camera! July 2, 2009 Love the Lumix! Exactly what I was looking for, instructions a little confusing for the novice that I am,but is fun learning how to use.
Great Camera July 1, 2009 Great camera...liked it so much I bought a second one after my first one came up missing. Fits in my pocket, yet takes breathtaking pictures and the zoom is awesome!
