1 out of 5 stars U20 was a waste of my time.   August 25, 2010
TexasGuy
Like many tech hungry people, I wanted the latest and greatest toy. I pre-ordered this item back in April. Delay after delay should have let me know something was wrong, but finally it was shipped. Everything that has been mentioned here, totally correct. Clicking noise...every time I recorded. Yes, mute during zoom can be turned off, but it is still a bad camera despite this. Video quality - HD it is not. Sure, it says it, but the quality is grainy at best. SDHC card? People make too much out of brands, but I myself stick to SanDisk. Try a class 10 for speed rating and full hd recording. No dice. Just a poorly made unit. I got the fatal flaw on the manual included on the disk. The software was buggy. Everything about this screamed cheap and poorly made. The only great thing was the form factor. Too bad it did not work. Sent back. Amazon was awesome. Full refund. No drama. Stick with something bigger. Heck, my iPhone does a better job of recording. Pretty sad. Lesson learned.

1 out of 5 stars Deceptive looks and advertising.   August 1, 2010

I was drawn to the 3x optical zoom, only to discover it is really a 3x digital zoom and not optical at all. This is misleading and deceptive advertising, and Samsung should remove any reference to "optical zoom" from this camcorder, especially since it's printed on the front of the camcorder. It's an outright lie, and for that reason alone I returned it.

Video quality is not HD unless you use a 15mps SD card. The lens is a joke. The large ring suggests a huge lens. It's a tiny inferior plastic lens buried in the large ring. The lens flare and chromatic aberration make the video look horrible anywhere near bright lights. In dim light, there is a lot of grain, more than typical of camcorders in this class.

Audio is very low fidelity and noisy, and at times cuts in and out making the recordings useless.

The Kodak and Flip cameras blow this away, especially the high quality lens and image of the Kodak PlaySport.

3 out of 5 stars Just ok.   July 20, 2010
Tushar Tyagi (USA)
After a few days of usage I feel that its an ok product with scope for improvement. I bought it for its HD capability and the time-lapse mode. The clicking sound in the audio is of the autofocus mechanism (typical of point & shoot cameras) which goes away if the focus is not changing. Day time performance is pretty good. The built in s/w (no installation needed) for viewing things on a pc is also good.

1 out of 5 stars Known ISSUE!!!   June 22, 2010
C. Crawford (Orlando, FL)
I do not normally write reviews, but this purchase really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Buyer beware applies to this unit.

Bottom-line, this unit has an issue with audio. Regardless of whether zooming with the optical zoom, or not, the unit records a "clicking sound". The zooming creates its own sound, which is distinct, and even worse.

No question, this unit should not be purchased unless you intend only to record HD Video, and do not care about the audio.

2 out of 5 stars A cellular phone quality camcorder/digital camera   June 19, 2010
M. Li (Michigan, USA)
I pre-ordered this camcorder in April, 2010 and patiently waited for about 2 months for it's release. I was excited about its time lapse recording. The cost in April was $199. It is now $169, June 2010. A significant price drop in less than a month from its release. Since using this camcorder, I haven't had a chance to get satisfied digital picture yet. Nor have I had a chance to take good quality videos. The focusing of this camcorder isn't working very well. Most of the time, I have slight out-of-focus pictures. The video doesn't give sharp images either. It's lighting compensation is minimal. Similar to other reviewers, some video clips I took has missing audio. Especially for those video clips longer than 30 seconds. I reviewed the video clips on my computer and have not tried another computer.

Pros:
Small, slick design. Looks great. Easy to carry. And, of course, time lapse recording. Uses an SD card for storage. It's a popular memory card. (Note: This camera doesn't come with an SD card.) One-button video upload to a popular video sharing web site. (I haven't tried this function yet.) Embedded USB connector that connects this camera directly to a computer and recharge this camera. This is a great feature!

Cons:
Picture quality not good. This is probably because of the cellular phone style optic. It really needs a lot of improvement. Video clips doesn't show very good quality either. Missing audio in video clips.
