5 out of 5 stars The sort of music they'll play when the world ends...   March 26, 2008
Bought this album on a whim, after bumping into it on here and seeing all the positive reviews. Very glad I did. It's surprisingly melodic and great to drive to. The only low point (for me) is Amerika which, because it's partly sung in heavily accented English, sounds a bit Eurovision. That apart it's fascinating stuff that bears repeated listening. If you've never bought music like this before don't be put off. I've immediately ordered most of their back catalogue.

5 out of 5 stars Reise, reise   January 16, 2008
I absolutely love Rammstein and this, for me is Rammstein's best. It is dark in places but then it is wonderfully upbeat and makes you feel, happy. Yes, they've been around for years now, but this album just shows that they can still deliver that magic that they first showed on 'Herzeleid'.

The Album is great. From the seconds in on title track 'reise, reise' you just know you are in for one glorious journey. Some tracks are:

Moskau: (Moscow) A beautiful dancey track, combining grinding guitars with sweet Russian vocals by Viktoria Hersh* and obviously, the whip of Till Lindemann's vocals. A more chanty song with a fantastic melody, this song is one of those upbeat tracks, it just makes you want to...head bang and singalong!

Ohne Dich: (without you) A sad, ambient track with haunting music and an overall softer sound, the quietest on the album. This song is just beautiful, choirs and orchestras are present to create such a melancholy atmosphere. Although its sullen, it doesnt choke you - it conveys raw emotion and power.

Amerika: If you love the comedy behind Rammstein then you will love this song. Grinding guitars battle with powerful drums to the sound of Till singing: ''We're all living in Amerika, Amerika ist wunderbar. We're all living in Amerika...Coca Cola, Wonderbra/Sometimes war.'' Apparently the song isn't anything to do with politics but it is definitely a great tune.

To me, the whole album is a highlight in my record collection and is my most listened to. I would definitely recommend it to the devoted fan or just the casual listener. When you first here it, it sounds like something you have never heard. Its just brilliant.

Please note to, it isn't a concept album but is loosely based on travelling. On the front of the cover is a flight recorder, allegedly the one from the Japan Airline crash (JA123) in the 1980's. In the promotion posters, the band were seen on a sort of wasteland, all in suits with briefcases. They could be imitating the crash as over 500 passengers were on board but only 4 survived.
Also on many recordings of Reise, Reise, the last 30 seconds of the pilots in the cockpit on JA123 can be heard. Just rewind your album from the title track 30 seconds to here. It is really haunting.

Well done Rammstein for creating another wonderful album!!

5 out of 5 stars Wunderbar - like Amerika apparently!   December 5, 2007

No need to add much more than all that has gone before, but I just wanted to declare my appreciation of this album, and that having considered Rammstein (unheard) a bit "difficult" to get in to, I am glad to put the record straight and put that one firmly to bed. Some of the lyrics are gothicly over the top - some of the translations on various websites leave a bit to be desired by the way - but this could be evidence of a Teutonic tongue in cheek sense of humour. Couldn't it? Really scary if it isn't!
Having said that, some of the melodies - yes there are melodies - could be from Eurovision songs albeit very heavy Eurovision songs! If you have been "frightened off" before like I was, please don't be because this album and this band are really
something special.

5 out of 5 stars Genuinely new things tried by the band   October 6, 2007
If you have never heard of Rammstein before, then my advice is to buy the album "Mutter" first and see if you like them. For fans who already like them, this album contains the stuff we love like the powerful vocals of the lead singer, and the usual storm of noise from the backing band. The thing that is most striking about this album is how much the band have tried new things, and thus this is not really classic Rammstein, it is rather experimental Rammstein, and at least for the most part, the experiment has been a success. The opening track "Reise Reise" is real hairs on the back of the neck stuff, and the usual Blitzkrieg of noise is found on the other tracks. The band have definitely used this album to flex their creative muscles, and as well as hard rock, the band have tried some new things. They use slow, soft acoustic sounds in the track "Los", and for the first time, resort to singing in languages other than German. Indeed, on this album the band sing in German, Russian and English. Not all of the tracks are winners though, with "Keine Lust" being a repetitive let down, and "Dalai Lama" proving to be rather timid for what we fans are used to. Nevertheless the album is a must have for fans, and some tracks will genuinely bring you out in goosebumps. It will also have a wider appeal than the other Rammstein albums because of the new elements, so is perhaps good if you have a room mate or partner who is not as much of a rocker as you.

5 out of 5 stars rammsteins masterpiece,simple as that   January 25, 2007

Germanys rammsteins reputation as a live act is undisputed, their live show is a mass of chaos, fire and visual effects that would put many films to shame,on cd the band just have to deliver and here they deliver the album of their lives, and what a belter it is.
The bands fourth album is their most melodic yet, still industrial in places of course but more commercial, thrashy riffs give way to an inclusion of more keyboards, accordian, mandolin, violins, synths and choirs that will rip your spine to shreds, well it did to mine.
The lyrics are again in german, bar the song 'amerika' which contains some english and sang in the commanding tone that we all know, but for rammstein,no other style would work.
Opening up with the stunning 'reise reise' its clear that the band want to create anthems and this is heightened with the remaining tracks in truth, each song builds and reveals itself to be a real sing along classic. The quality never stops, songs like 'keine lust' are just addictive, killer riffs with all the melodies thrown in that you could ever wish for,one of my favourites here is ''moskau' which features female vocals, originally meant for one of the members of russian pop group tatu, but her loss is evident as this is a masterpiece of epic proportion, there is even a ballad or two thrown in to diverse the sound just a little, but after 47 minutes and the end of this 2004 album, one thing is clear, rammstein deserve all the praise that is lauded on them,i havent enough superlatives to throw their way.
