 Too soon to be doing a "very best of"...? December 8, 2008

If I had never heard any Hayley Westenra before, this would have received an enthusiastic five stars. But as I'm a big fan, having seen her in concert and possessing both Pure and Treasure, this CD was rather a disappointment, there is so much repetition of tracks on it and the new material is unimaginative and in danger of being dull. Sweet and bewitching, Hayley and her beautiful voice need to move on and be brave enough to take on more adventurous material, either written especially for her (the best idea, why hasn't it been done?) or by covering singers like Sandy Denny and Stevie Nicks in reflective mode just as very personal suggestions. Hayley covered Wuthering Heights on Pure, so why not? I prefer Hayley's voice over the more widely known and trilling Catherine Jenkins, and she deserves success.
In conclusion: if you don't own any Hayley Westenra - buy Pure and not this.

It is without doubt by no coincidence that Hayley decided to call this album River of Dreams. It is a tiver of dreams. Each track explains a personal journey in Hayley's musical and personal life, and I believe it is the best Best Of one can produce. Each song was carefully selected, and the songs were without doubt my favorite from the start. So I was extremely pleased to see the tracklistings. I am also more than impressed with the three new recordings. Songbird is one of the best version I have ever heard, and Now is the Hour is yet again one of Hayley's best Maori songs. I believe Hayley's best songs are in sung in Maori, and there is no exception for Now is the Hour. The new recording of Ave Maria displays Hayley's purity of her voice, and how she has contained it over the years. The three new tracks are very well selected, as the album itself is great, and the new tracks prove that she has more. I am very pleased with this album, and am so glad she produced a Best Of. I can now listen to Pure, Odyssey and Treasure all at the same time! If you likes her three international albums, then this is for you. You will not be disappointed.

It's so lovely to see a Best Of So Far album with some completely new tracks as well as being reminded of some of the classic songs from the last 3 CDs. Fantastic album and would thoroughly recommend it to all.

This album is just a compilation of her last three albums. There are only four new tracks on there. What a con. I've bought all her albums so far, but I won't be buying this one.
